ESPN 2K5 The Best?

I got a chance to play both NBA Live 2005 and ESPN NBA 2K5 and while both of them have their ups and downs, basketball in 2005 belongs to ESPN, since after all, it is their last one.

ESPN NBA 2K5 has graphics that are about 50 times better than NBA Live 2005 and you definitely notice while playing. ESPN has a feature called "24/7 mode" where you create your player and travel around the country and participate in 1 on 1 games or 2 on 2 games, and different types of games, etc and build your reputation up. On the way, you also make "friends" and ball with other people and enter contests. It's a really nice mode that Live doesn't feature but then of course Live has the 'All-star competition' which definitely sticks out.

The controls for ESPN is different and though Live does feature a few more crossovers with its 'freestyle' control, ESPN doesn't stagger behind at all. The shooting, passing and the ally hoops all look well. Sometimes however, the dunks on ESPN however can look a little puzzling and gritty while the dunks on Live are much more cleaner.

ESPN NBA 2K5 features better online play than NBA Live 2005 by far. When I first played Live online, there was major lag and I thought it was just the people I was playing. Later, I asked around and everyone else witnessed this weird lag. You can point fingers about this flaw towards EA for not working something out, but on the other hand, ESPN's online play is great with no lagging and a great system. After each game, your ranks update immediately and it's easy to set up challenges to other people to begin a game.

Without any questions, ESPN NBA 2K5 is the basketball game to have for 2005. Go out and buy it since it'll last you about 6 months 'til NBA Live 2006 in late September/early October.
