Nintendo has packed big wallop into tiny Wii

Submitted by: kirkland on Friday November 17th, 2006 at 06:38 PM EST

From its failed attempt at virtual reality (the Virtual Boy) to its somewhat successful Gamecube, Nintendo always aims to be the innovator.

The company scores with its new video-game console Nintendo Wii, which goes on sale Sunday, 48 hours after competitor Sony's ballyhooed PlayStation 3 makes its U.S. debut.

The Wii console is tiny; about as tall as a DVD case and as wide as three abreast.

The most distinctive feature of the Wii is its controller. It's actually not a controller, at least not in the conventional sense; the Wii remote, or Wiimote, looks and feels like a TV remote. It's held in one hand (for most of the games, anyway), and you swing it around to affect what is going on in the game.

Twilight Princess, is shaping up to be one of the best in the Legend of Zelda series. Your sword is controlled by swinging the Wiimote, and you control the characters' movement by using the Nunchuk's joystick. After only a few moments, playing, it feels intuitive and tight. Responses are well matched, and you rarely find yourself swinging without causes. As with all Zelda titles, the story line is epic. The graphics, although a bit outdated, still look nice.
