Xbox 360 Shortages Already?

According to the retailer GAME located in Great Brittan, they are unable to take any more orders for the Xbox 360 Premium System. According to their "Frequently Asked Questions" for the Xbox 360 the demand has been so high for the Premium package, they are not confident they will receive enough stock to fulfill the orders on launch day. At this point Microsoft hasn't even begun mass production of the console, so it seems GAME is taking a conservative approach.

On the other hand this does stink of a PR ploy to generate more buzz about the system and perhaps garner more pre-orders in the process. [ Link ]

All of the retailers in my area that took preorders are now saying that any further preorders may not ship until 2006. I'm buying it. I don't think this is a PR ploy, but rather the harsh reality of holiday console releases. Just keep in mind that some retailers like Best Buy and Walmart do not take preorders. There's still a chance for those of us who chose not to preorder.
