The Wii beat the Playstation 3 by a nose in popularity at Amazon Japan according the retailer's latest research data.

Production registration data collected on Aug. 16 placed Wii in the No. 1 position. The 60GB PS3 SKU ranked at No 2. followed by the 20GB PS3 SKU.

Amazon Japan began data collection on interest for the Wii and PS3 on July 12. In each week, the Wii has held a slight edge over the PS3 as both continue to soar in customer interest.
